VLOG ENTRY 14: My latest lymph node clearance surgery on February 7th 2018 as documented on my insta-stories. After finishing my 18th cycle of chemo it was time for my 4th round of surgery since being diagnosed with breast cancer. I’ve already had a right side lumpectomy and lymph node clearance in May 2017, which was followed by a full right mastectomy in July 2017 and re-excision in August 2017. In October 2017 a scan showed the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes under the arm on the other side. This is apparently quite an unusual place for it to go – surprise surprise! But there is plenty of recent evidence that this sort of spread should be treated as a locoregional recurrence (rather than distant metastases) and should be dealt with curatively. So after another 5 rounds of chemo, this aim of this surgery was to remove all the lymph nodes under my left arm (axillary node clearance).
